Financial Aid and Scholarships
Internal Funding for Student Research
The School of Public Health is pleased to provide support for student research and travel related to scholarly activities in order to facilitate research and its dissemination by our students. Student research support is viewed as an essential component in an academic environment that encourages students to become actively engaged in research-related activities.
The student grants program is administered by the SPH Committee on Research & Creative Activity. In keeping with its mission of encouraging high quality research by faculty and students, the Committee on Research & Creative Activity has established these application procedures.
There are two funding mechanisms for student research and research dissemination:
SPH Student Research Grants – Students can apply for funds to support independent or collaborative research projects. Graduate students can apply for grant funds up to $1000.00; undergraduate students can apply for grant funds up to $500.00. Doctoral students preparing an application for this mechanism should pay special attention to the grant guidelines that apply to dissertation projects.
Applications for Student Research Grants are accepted two times during the academic year. Applications are due by October 15 or February 15 of each academic year.
SPH Student Travel Grants – Students can apply for funds to support expenses associated with travel for scholarly purposes (e.g., to present research at a scientific meeting or some other research-related event). Students can apply for up to $200.00 for each scientific meeting at which they are presenting research.
Applications for Student Travel Grants are accepted six times during the academic year. Applications are due by August 1, October 1, December 1, February 1, April 1, and June 1 of each year.
