Future in Focus

As a graduating senior in Human Development and Family Studies, Corrine K has made a meaningful impact on the School of Public Health–Bloomington community through both her academic excellence and active involvement on campus. A Dean’s List student and Provost Scholar, Corrine has demonstrated a strong commitment to her studies and a passion for understanding and supporting individuals and families.

Beyond the classroom, Corrine has served as a dedicated SPH Student Ambassador and Course Assistant, where she has helped foster a welcoming environment for peers and prospective students alike. Her leadership, professionalism, and enthusiasm for the school have left a lasting impression. 

We congratulate Corrine on her many accomplishments and look forward to seeing the positive difference she will continue to make in her field and beyond.

Tenzin D., a recent MPH graduate in Epidemiology, has distinguished himself through an exceptional record of scholarship, leadership, and service. A Tibetan Fulbright Scholar and inductee of the Delta Omega Honorary Society, Tenzin has represented SPH‑B on national stages—including as a selected presenter for APHA 2025. He has contributed meaningfully to the school community as an MPH student mentor, a member of the Office of Public Health Practice, and a This Is Public Health Student Ambassador with ASPPH. Beyond campus, he served as vice president of the IU Fulbright Association, helping strengthen global and cultural engagement across the university. Tenzin’s achievements reflect both his dedication to public health and his commitment to advancing health equity locally and globally. 

December graduate Ethan Dean spent this summer with Simtra BioPharma Solutions, where he worked in the Operational Excellence (OpEx) department on a major initiative to transition the site to a fully digital documentation system. Ethan conducted in‑depth data research to improve processes and reduce error impact, ultimately developing more than 20 digitized forms—one of the site’s top projects.

Ethan credits the experience with strengthening his professional skills, especially in Excel, Power Automate, and Python, while also pushing him outside his comfort zone. He built meaningful connections with colleagues and fellow interns, supported by a team that was always willing to guide and collaborate.

“This internship gave me real projects with real deadlines,” Ethan shared. “It provided true experience in the field and helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

Ethan hopes to pursue a career in pharmaceutical sales, and his time at Simtra offered valuable insight into how a pharma company operates from the inside. He discovered the opportunity through Handshake and encourages other students to explore similar hands‑on experiences. 

This month, we’re excited to spotlight one of our outstanding SPH‑B students whose classroom learning is paired with a fast‑paced, hands‑on role in professional motorsports.

As part of Cusick Motorsports’ INDY NXT program, she helps manage the team’s public relations and social media—creating content, writing race recaps and press releases, coordinating media opportunities, and ensuring drivers are exactly where they need to be during the whirlwind of race weekends. With so much happening behind the scenes, her work plays a key role in keeping the team running smoothly and connected with fans.

Her experience has taught her the importance of flexibility and adaptability, especially in an environment where plans shift quickly and race weekends move at full speed. It has also pushed her outside her comfort zone in the best way. Writing—once something she felt unsure about—is now one of the most rewarding parts of her job. Through practice, feedback, and the pressure of real‑time deadlines, she’s grown confident in her ability to tell compelling stories and represent the team publicly.

What she’s most proud of is the growth she’s experienced and the trust she’s earned. Being responsible for the team’s communications is something she takes seriously, and seeing her work strengthen the team’s connection with fans and media has been incredibly meaningful.

Her journey is a powerful example of how SPH‑B students are gaining real‑world experience, building professional confidence, and stepping boldly into their careers—even before graduation.

Joel Tsetse recently completed a master’s degree in Kinesiology (Sport and Coaching Science) and graduated in December 2025. In addition to his academic work, he served on the Graduate Student Advisory Committee and represented his peers as a Student Government Representative, helping strengthen the graduate student experience at SPH‑B.

Joel’s path to public health began during his undergraduate studies in psychology, where he discovered a passion for human performance and athletics. He saw the School of Public Health–Bloomington as the ideal place to merge those interests and make a meaningful impact on community well‑being through sport and athletic development. “It was an easy decision,” he says.

One of his most memorable experiences at SPH‑B has been taking Adapted Physical Activity with Dr. Frey, a course that deepened his appreciation for the power of simply showing up for others. Looking ahead, Joel hopes to channel his skills and passion into a career as a Sports Researcher or Sports Scientist, ideally working with an NFL team or a collegiate athletics program.

For Joel, being part of the SPH‑B community means feeling welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. “From the moment I began my master’s program, I felt embraced by the faculty,” he shares. “This community has given me countless opportunities to build meaningful relationships and develop both personally and professionally.”

And a fun fact you might not guess: when he’s not studying or contributing to campus leadership, Joel unwinds by experimenting with his DJ mixing board, blending beats and samples to relax and recharge.
