Take it further

Some graduates of our M.S. in Nutrition pursue advanced training in our Ph.D. in Nutrition. This doctoral program prepares the next generation of nutrition scholars and professionals to address complex public health nutrition challenges through teaching, research, and applied practice.

Graduates of the Ph.D. in Nutrition program are trained to:

  • Conduct and disseminate original, rigorous, and reproducible scholarly research in contemporary areas of nutrition, including nutrition and applied health sciences, nutrition across the lifespan (maternal and child nutrition and healthy aging), international nutrition, and nutrition diagnostics;
  • Design and implement a wide range of research approaches, including community based participatory research, randomized controlled trials, and implementation science, while emphasizing transparency and methodological rigor;
  • Translate nutrition science into policy, practice, and industry applications that improve population health; and
  • Pursue careers in higher education, public policy, industry, or research settings as independent investigators, educators, and nutrition professionals.

The program also includes opportunities for experiential learning, such as internships in industry or policy environments, that complement rigorous doctoral training.
